Raw Honey

Where do you buy honey from and what to look out for?

Today unscrupulous suppliers have adulterated the word ‘Honey’ or ‘Pure Honey’ to such an extent the consumer has no idea what is real and what is fake. Honey is in short supply this only feeds the greed of suppliers. Pure honey is made by bees only, no additives, no colourants and is certainly not manufactured. Man makes manufactured honey. Manufactured syrup is been sold as ‘Honey’. The base syrup can be corn or rice syrup. With some manufactures even using plain sugar. Additives are added to give colour and taste to the syrup. Real honey can also be blended with these syrups to make a cheaper ‘honey’. All imported honey must be irradiated.

How can you tell real honey from fake honey.

The consumer certainly has difficulty in telling real from fake honey. The proper tests are expensive and can only be done in a few laboratories around the world.
If you want Pure honey read the labels on honey bottles.

  • Honey imported from overseas has to be irradiated. This honey cannot be guaranteed to be a pure honey.
  • Avoid ‘Manufactured honey’.
  • Buy from a know supplier of quality honey.
  • Avoid cheap ‘Honey’.
